Alliance for Sustainability Launches “Living Local in Chequamegon Bay” Asset Map

Picture
In support of the regions strong interest in a thriving local living economy, the Alliance for Sustainability and its partners have created two community spaces.

The first is a facebook forum page “Chequamegon Bay Local Living Economy” for EVERYONE to connect and post activities related to creating our thriving local economy.  The second is a “Living Local in Chequamegon Bay” asset map.  This map is a place for YOU to help pinpoint on a map the things that make living here special.  This online map will help highlight places to eat local, shop local, or enjoy local beauty and will celebrate our local wisdom, our ecological assets, or our local arts, music and culture.  We will use the map to identify places and people who are making great things happen so that we can help make these places even greater.  We also hope that this map will become a community resource for you and for visitors alike who are seeking other ways to help support our local beauty, wisdom and economy.

We're a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainability in the Chequamegon Bay region of Wisconsin and beyond.  We work with local partners to promote resource conservation practices and reduce overall waste and consumption.

Our recent sustainability initiatives with regional and state partners include:

  • Facilitating baseline energy assessments in tribal, town, city, and county facilities as part of a state grant to create a regional Energy Independent Pilot Community.
  • Providing leadership to coordinate our Green Team Network of Early Adopters of Sustainability, a consortium of 18 partner organizations that are putting green practices "on the ground" in business, government, and community organizations.
  • Supporting development of a Wind Energy Consortium for the region.
  • Facilitating partnerships across all sectors that promote collaboration on regional grants for sustainability.
  • Building grassroots support including dollars, in-kind support, and friends to grow the sustainability movement.
  • Leveraging local citizen support to bring new grants into our region for "future-in-mind" initiatives.
  • Fostering the sustainability movement in other communities through the advice we offer about lessons learned in leading the way.
